Stetson Shoe Company

Vintage Stetson Shoes

Stetson Shoe Company, NOT to be confused with the Stetson Hat Company, was a big-time maker of top-quality shoes from the 1800's thru 1973 when they finally closed the doors to their Weymouth, Massachusetts manufacturing plant. From spectators to spade soles, Stetson made some of the greatest U.S.-made shoes of all the still-recognizable brands. It should be noted that they were cutting edge when it came to styling, especially in the 1940's and 1950's. During this time, they were best known for their long and somewhat pointed lasts. While much of the rest of the U.S. shoe industry was moving toward a more rounded shape, Stetson stayed true to tradition and instead pushed shapes that harkened back to the late 1800's to early 1920's. When you have a pair of distinctive Stetsons, you can tell the maker without looking at the label!

Banister Shoe Company

Established 1n 1845, Banister Shoe Company was one of the greatest shoemakers of the mid to late 1800's... in the entire world! Banister won multiple world-wide shoemaking competitions during its peak, with victories throughout the U.S. as well as Vienna and Paris. So wonderful to see that the United States was truly at the center of the Quality Shoes world!

In the mid 1950's, Stetson purchased Banister Shoe company and turned it into its High-End shoe brand. Very interesting to note that Stetson would sometimes sell the same model of a shoe under BOTH the Stetson & the Banister names. However, the Banister models generally sold for 20% more!

Arnold Shoe Company / Arnold Glove Grip

Stetson Shoe Company purchased the Arnold Shoe company in the mid 1950's. More research is coming!
